Multi-Year deal: CeraVe partners with NBA

North American basketball’s top-tier NBA has entered into a new commercial deal with major skincare brand CereVe.

Through a multi-year tie-up unveiled today, CeraVe becomes the official skincare partner of the 30-franchise league.

The deal has been announced in the build-up to the 2025-26 NBA season getting underway on October 21.

It will entail CeraVe producing custom NBA-focused content, as well as engaging in on-site activations at league events, and integrating its products into NBA marketing.

These elements add to the campaign the brand already has in place with Anthony Davis, the 10-time NBA All-Star.

The NBA has stated that CeraVe will have a presence at events such as the Emirates NBA Cup, NBA All-Star, and the NBA Summer League, and will also be integrated into the NBA 2K26 video game.

Paolo Pastore, vice president for global business development at the NBA, has now said: “This partnership reflects the NBA’s commitment to expanding its lifestyle and wellness offerings. CeraVe brings trusted expertise and an innovative marketing approach that helps bring the NBA experience closer to fans wherever they are.”

Esther Garcia, general manager at CeraVe US, added: “Our partnership with the NBA is an exciting opportunity to reach a truly unparalleled audience – one that’s passionate, engaged, incredibly diverse, and one that truly values performance, especially when it comes to their skin barrier, head to toe.”

The NBA campaign gets underway with a clash between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Houston Rockets on October 21.

At the end of September, the NBA’s chief marketing officer Tammy Henault departed.

Henault joined the NBA in 2022 to lead its global marketing efforts.

Prior to the NBA, Henault was senior vice president of marketing for the Paramount+ streaming service. Before that, she worked at The New York Times and led customer acquisition and retention for its digital subscription business. Sportcal

  • ESPN retains Big South rights through 2031

ESPN retains Big South rights through 2031

International sports broadcaster ESPN has renewed its domestic rights for the Big South US college sports conference, for another six years.

The new agreement, which will run through the 2030-31 academic year, extends a relationship that began in 1991 and will see the bulk of Big South competition remain on the ESPN+ streaming service – its primary home since 2018 when ESPN+ was launched.

The package spans several sports across the conference, including American football, men’s and women’s basketball and soccer, women’s volleyball and lacrosse, baseball, and softball.

Big South commissioner Sherika A. Montgomery said: “Our extended agreement is a testament to ESPN’s strong commitment to our Conference, the compelling experiences of our student-athletes, and the competitive excellence that defines our sport programs – especially in basketball.

“This enhanced partnership significantly elevates our brand visibility, recognition, and reputation on a national level. More importantly, it provides our student-athletes with a broader platform to compete, excel, and share their stories with a wider audience.”

The rights renewal comes three months after ESPN agreed to a similar six-year streaming rights deal with the Big East Conference that will see a minimum of 75 women’s basketball and 200 Olympic sports events stream on the ESPN+ service annually.

ESPN’s other college sports offerings include the Atlantic Coast Conference, under a deal renewed earlier this year through the 2035-36 academic year, while the broadcaster’s biggest college sports deal is an eight-year, $920 million tie-up with the NCAA, the governing body of college athletics in the US, announced in January 2024.

The deal, which started with the 2024-25 academic year and runs through 2031-32, includes domestic rights to 40 championships – 21 women’s and 19 men’s events – and international rights to the same championships as well as the Division I men’s basketball tournament.

It encompasses several top college sports, including American football, baseball, basketball, lacrosse, tennis, gymnastics, and volleyball.

However, the contract does not include several marquee games from American football and basketball, including the Division I men’s basketball’s ‘March Madness’ tournament, which is shown by Paramount Global and Warner Bros. Discovery via national network CBS and the Turner cable networks. Sportcal

  • Asia Cup Final: Team India in an odd phase

Asia Cup Final: Team India in an odd phase

On securing their place in the ongoing T20 Asia Cup, former Indian cricket player Atul Wassan praised India for their dominating performance throughout the tournament, saying no team in the competition is near India. India has already qualified for the Asia Cup finals following wins over Pakistan and Bangladesh, and will play Sri Lanka, which has already been eliminated following two losses, to end their Super Four run undefeated and head into the final with full momentum. While speaking to ANI, Atul Wassan said, “India’s campaign in the Asia Cup is exactly as we had imagined. The way we are dominating. So I feel that the Indian team has all kinds of core competencies, and I don’t think any team is around India.”

However, Wassan expressed concern over the Indian team’s struggles with catching in the ongoing T20 Asia Cup, noting that dropping catches is a significant issue.

In the last two Super Fours fixtures, Indian fielders have been exposed to the harsh reality of taking catches under the light in Dubai. During the six-wicket triumph over Pakistan, four dropped catches and a couple of errors in the field summed up India’s bizarre effort in the field.

“Yes, there is a little concern that the catches are dropping a little more, in my opinion, because a top-class team does not leave so many catches so regularly. Sometimes there is a bad game and it happens with Australia and South Africa also leaves catches. But I have not seen so many catches dropping so regularly. Maybe I can say that it is an odd phase,” he added.

The pattern continued on Wednesday, with Saif Hassan, Bangladesh’s lone crusader, being handed four unprecedented lifelines. Indian fielders dropped him on scores of 40, 65, 66 and 67. On the fifth instance, Axar Patel didn’t overcalculate and punched Saif’s return ticket on 69(51) off Jasprit Bumrah in the 19th over.

In the ongoing tournament, India has dropped 12 catches and boasts an efficiency rate of 67.5 per cent, the second-lowest among all participating nations.

India Squad: Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill, Shivam Dube, Suryakumar Yadav(c), Hardik Pandya, Tilak Varma, Axar Patel, Sanju Samson(w), Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Varun Chakaravarthy, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma. NDTV Sports

  • Global expansion boosts Saudi Pro League media revenue 20%

Global expansion boosts Saudi Pro League media revenue 20%

Saudi Arabian soccer’s top-flight Saudi Pro League has announced an uplift of 20% to its annual media rights revenue globally over the past two seasons after a large number of new agreements were secured over recent months.

The league will be shown in over 180 global territories across the 2024-25 campaign thanks to a succession of partnerships that have seen media rights revenue grow for the third successive cycle.

On a region-by-region basis, Asia performed strongest with an uplift of 35%, owing largely to new multi-year deals with, Spotv in Southeast Asia, Fancode in India, and Begin in Pakistan.

The Americas too performed well, with values up 32% bolstered by a high-profile multi-year rights deal with Globo in Brazil, and major US network Fox Sports.

Elsewhere, media rights in Africa surged 25%, powered by the league’s ESPN Africa coverage agreement.

Across the 2024-25 campaign, the SPL claims it drew as many as 230 million fans globally, and looking forward, SPL chief executive Omar Mugharbel added: “We are entering a new era of global visibility and fandom for our league.

“By partnering with a mix of world-class broadcasters and innovative digital platforms we are making the Roshn Saudi League accessible to football fans around the world. The long-term nature of these agreements reflects the strong commitment our partners have in our journey and the exciting future of the RSL.”

In addition to broadcast agreements, the league has also worked to expand the reach of short-form content, such as highlights, across platforms such as YouTube, OneFootball, and DAZN, where it has established a content hub.

The SPL’s media rights are managed by heavyweight sports marketing agency IMG, which renewed its partnership with the competition for another four-year cycle back in August.

IMG said that since taking over the league’s rights distribution, international coverage of the SPL has grown significantly, culminating in last season’s matches being aired in more than 184 countries on over 43 global platforms across six continents.

During the 2023-24 season, meanwhile, SPL games were covered in 160 countries on more than 40 platforms. Sportcal

  • ICC takes action against USA cricket board

ICC takes action against USA cricket board

The ICC has finally decided to suspend USA Cricket (USAC), in the process hitting the reset button as it attempts to overhaul the leadership and governance structure of the sport in a key market. The decision was taken by the ICC Board after a virtual meeting on Tuesday. USAC’s suspension will not impact the national team’s participation in the T20 World Cup starting in February in India and Sri Lanka or the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The suspension comes just over two months after the ICC, at its annual general meeting in July, had granted USAC three months to hold “free and fair elections” and carry out “comprehensive” governance reforms. At the time, the ICC reiterated that USAC would continue to remain “on notice”, as it has been since July 2024. The ICC Board also warned USAC that it reserved the right to take any action it deemed fit based on the progress of reforms.

Eventually, on Tuesday evening, the ICC suspended USAC with “immediate effect” and temporarily took over “management and administration of USA national teams.”

“The decision, taken by the ICC Board during its meeting earlier, was based on USA Cricket’s repeated and continued breaches of its obligations as an ICC Member under the ICC’s Constitution,” an ICC press release said. “These include, but are not limited to, the failure to implement a functional governance structure, lack of progress toward achieving National Governing Body status with the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), and significant actions that have caused reputational damage to cricket in the United States and around the world.”

The suspension does not have an immediate impact on cricket being part of the LA 2028 Games. The ICC clarified that USA teams will still be able to participate in ICC events as well as make preparations for the Olympics. Calling it “unfortunate but necessary” the ICC said it was forced to take such extreme action to “protect the long-term interests of the game and the ICC’s top priority remains ensuring that the athletes and the sport itself are not impacted due to the suspension.”

During the time USAC had been put on notice, the ICC had been working with it to draw a “roadmap” and facilitate its securing national governing body (NGB) status from the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC). This is mandatory for all sports that were added to LA28 Games. As hosts, USA are expected to be one of the six teams to contest for medals in both men’s and women’s categories.

That roadmap, which comprises six steps, was drawn by the ICC’s Normalisation Committee, headed by chairman Jay Shah. Prior to that, the committee met USAC top brass Venu Pisike (chairman) and Johnathan Atkeison (CEO) twice – first in April virtually and then in person in June. The roadmap called for USAC to start an organisational revamp by bringing in three new independent directors to replace the incumbents on the Board. Following that the USAC Board would step down and prompt fresh elections. At this point USAC would apply for NGB status.

Simultaneously, the ICC also said a comprehensive review and reform of the USA Cricket Constitution “shall be undertaken” in close consultation with the Independent Directors and relevant ICC stakeholders. With USAC unable to meet these terms, it was suspended.

USAC was being considered for suspension at the ICC’s AGM in July and only managed its three-month reprieve by making “commitments” to the ICC Board to meet the criteria required for membership.

“When USAC was notified of the AGM’s decision,” the ICC press release said, “it was specifically advised in writing that, along with fulfilling the commitments it made to the Board and taking immediate steps in that respect, it must (i) not do/omit to do anything that might jeopardise cricket’s inclusion in the Olympics, and (ii) not do anything (by act or omission) that brings cricket or the ICC into disrepute or is contrary to the best interests of cricket or the ICC.”

For USAC to lift its suspension, it will need to follow procedure that the Normalisation Committee, in coordination with the ICC management, will outline and which “will include demonstrable and specific changes to USA Cricket’s governance structure, operations and overall status in the Cricket ecosystem. The normalisation committee will also monitor USA Cricket’s progress and provide consultatory support.

“The ICC remains committed to supporting the growth of cricket in the United States, protect the sporting ecosystem and its constituents, namely the athletes and bolstering its march towards a more significant role on the global stage.” ESPNcricinfo

  • Sign-language showdown: India beats Pakistan

    Sign-language showdown: India beats Pakistan

First on the battlefield, and then on the cricket field, India has outsmarted, and even struck Pakistan where it hurts the most. Months after the military drubbing in Operation Sindoor, where Indian forces dismantled Pakistan’s terror havens and left Pakistani forces crippled, Indian cricketers too have given a fitting reply to their Pakistani counterparts’ unprovoked audacity. They not only defeated Pakistan twice in a span of a week, Indian players also won the sign-language war with their arch rivals.

In a viral video shared on social media, Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh made headlines for a fiery on-field gesture during the Super 4 clash against Pakistan on Sunday. Fans interpreted Arshdeep’s action as a response to Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf, who had made a gesture, suggesting Pakistan striking down Indian jets during the four-day mini-war in May.

It seemed Arshdeep’s “reply” nulled the relentless Pakistani taunts, just like India’s Akashteer Air Defence Control and Reporting System killed the drones and missiles shot from across the border.

India countered Pakistan’s disinformation during the mini-war with concrete facts, figures, and evidence.

Rauf’s taunt, aimed at the Indian team and fans earlier in the match, was later countered by Arshdeep’s gesture. The on-field sledging and aggression of Pakistan bowlers Haris Rauf and Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Sahibzada Farhan pointing his bat like an AK-47 gun, were duly answered by the Indian batters.

The action of the Pakistani cricketers revealed how militarisation of the country and the jihadi mindset had seeped seeped into the cricket team.

Though the actions of the Pakistanis were abominable, the Indians replied in their own language, not that of the rivals’.

Pak’s Sledging and Gestures Have Met India’s Savage Retorts
The Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 match in Dubai on September 21 turned into a cauldron of rivalry. The India team’s refusal to shake hands triggered the Pakistanis.

The Pakistani players went hard on provocations, which drew sharp retorts, but in Indian style.

Haris Rauf, irked by “Kohli-Kohli” chants from Indian fans, twice mimicked a fighter jet crashing and flashed a “6-0” sign, claiming the alleged Pakistani downing of six Indian jets in the May mini-war.

Pakistan batter Sahibzada Farhan, too, amplified the tension, brandishing his bat like an AK-47, “firing” toward the Indian dugout. The gesture was slammed for Pakistani mujahid mentality and as a glorification for the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam.

Farhan later shrugged it off, saying, “Mujhe parwah nahi” (I don’t care), insisting it was “aggressive cricket”.

Pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi joined the verbal barrage, exchanging barbs with Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma after being smashed for boundaries.

India, chasing 172, won by six wickets with Abhishek and Gill dominating. Post-match, Arshdeep’s cheeky “aeroplane crash” gesture trolling Rauf, went viral. The clip amassed millions of views as a “savage reply”.

“Arshdeep Singh came late, but brutally trolled Haris Rauf with his actions,” a parody account on X.

India’s battering of Pakistan on the pitch, capped by Arshdeep’s hard-hitting gesture, showed the unflappable edge India showed in the four-day mini-war, where the military too gave its “sign” response to Pakistan. India could have destroyed Pakistan’s military infrastructure, but it just crippled it and presented signs of its capabilities with controlled and precision strikes.

India’s sign-language war and composure trumped Pakistan’s antics.

India’s Op Sindoor Reply to Pak Turned Missiles Into Dud; Debunked Disinformation
Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7 was India’s tri-service blitz against nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK), where it decimated terror hubs of JeM, LeT, and Hizbul Mujahideen avenging the Pahalgam attack that saw terrorists killing 26 civilians. Indian strikes killed more than 100 terrorists, including JeM chief Masood Azhar’s family, in 25 minutes.

Later, when a rattled Pakistan tried to hit India’s civilian and military infrastructure, using missiles and drones, New Delhi’s comprehensive air defence systems, like the S400 and the indigenous Akashteer, shot them all down.

Pakistani retaliatory bombs turned into duds.

Air Force Chief AP Singh confirmed the four-day halt after objectives were met, and avoided an escalation.

Apart from the kinetic attacks, Pakistan’s disinformation campaign was debunked using satellite imagery (Maxar, KAWASPACE) showing the terrorist camp in ruins. Further, the LeT and JeM’s admission of losses exposed the farce, validating India’s evidence-led narrative.

From the battlefield to the cricket field, India showed that its “sign-language” speaks louder than Pakistan’s provocations, be it abuses or missiles. Whether in war or cricket, the archrival must have known by now that India always delivers a fitting reply in its own style. India Today

  • FIFA World Cup 2026 & 2030: SSEN in the race

FIFA World Cup 2026 & 2030: SSEN in the race

In a move that underscores both ambition and vision, Shrachi Sports Entertainment Network (SSEN), a dedicated sports OTT platform, has officially placed its bid for the broadcasting rights of the FIFA World Cup 2026 and 2030. Valued at approximated USD 2 Million (Rs 18-20 crores), the bid reflects SSEN’s ambition to redefine how global football reaches audiences across India and the subcontinents.

If awarded, SSEN intends to stream both the tournaments entirely on a free to view basis. This pioneering model would ensure that millions of fans across India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal and the Maldives can watch the world’s greatest sporting event without subscription fees or barriers to entry.

“The bid is more than a business move – it is a commitment to inclusivity and reshaping the future of football consumption in the region. By offering the FIFA World Cup streaming free to fans, we are democratising access to the game and laying the foundation for a long-term legacy that inspires generations” said Mr Tamal Ghosal, Chairman, Shrachi Sports.

The bold proposal builds on SSEN’s expanding portfolio of premier sports properties. The network already streams marquee tournaments including the Calcutta Football League and the I-League. In addition, SSEN is the first to stream the Women’s Bundesliga and the German Handball Bundesliga, underscoring its credibility as a platform delivering both Indian and international sporting action to mass audiences.

By taking these decisive steps, SSEN signals its determination not only to challenge conventional sports broadcasting models but also to position India as a central hub in the global football narrative. NDTV Sports

  • WPP vs ITW: Battle for Indian Cricket Team jersey sponsorship

WPP vs ITW: Battle for Indian Cricket Team jersey sponsorship

The BCCI has permitted agencies and marketing firms to enter the process if they provide client authorisation letters and receive board approval, said a person aware of the bidding rules.

Global media-buying giant WPP Media and sports consulting firm ITW Universe are among the companies in the race for the Indian cricket team’s front-of-jersey sponsorship, one of the most high-profile advertising assets in Indian sport, ET reported.

According to people familiar with the matter, a leading cement manufacturer and a global technology company have also picked up the tender documents floated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The sponsorship will run for two-and-a-half years, from September 30, 2025, until March 31, 2028, and is expected to generate around Rs 452 crore at reserve prices.

The last date to acquire bid papers was September 12, while formal bids are due on September 16. However, purchasing the documents does not guarantee participation. Each interested party must submit a performance deposit of Rs 25 crore along with its bid.

Spinny, Conglomerates likely in the mix
ITW Universe is widely expected to pitch on behalf of its client, online car retail platform Spinny, which is preparing for a stock market debut. Spinny counts Sachin Tendulkar, Tiger Global, Elevation Capital and General Catalyst among its backers. WPP’s role remains less clear, though industry chatter suggests the firm may be fronting a bid for a large Indian conglomerate with a history of big-ticket cricket sponsorships.

The BCCI has permitted agencies and marketing firms to enter the process if they provide client authorisation letters and receive board approval, said a person aware of the bidding rules. Neither WPP, ITW, nor the BCCI commented on the matter, as per ET.

High stakes, but a risky past
The cricket board invited bids earlier this month after its previous Rs 358 crore sponsorship deal with Dream11 ended prematurely. Dream11 exited following the government’s ban on money-based gaming under the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, leaving India without a jersey sponsor for the ongoing Asia Cup.

The front-of-jersey property, despite being coveted, has proved turbulent for brands in the past. Former sponsors such as Dream11, Byju’s, Oppo and Sahara have all encountered regulatory, financial, or reputational setbacks after taking on the asset.

The upcoming sponsorship will cover about 140 matches across bilateral series, International Cricket Council (ICC) tournaments and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) events. The BCCI has fixed reserve prices at Rs 3.5 crore per bilateral or ACC fixture and Rs 1.5 crore per ICC match—higher than the 2023 base rates of Rs 3 crore and Rs 1 crore, respectively.

Only companies with an average turnover or net worth of at least Rs 300 crore over the past three years can qualify, provided they also clear the board’s “fit and proper” test. This excludes applicants with criminal convictions, major financial offences, conflicts of interest, or poor reputational standing. Categories such as alcohol, betting, gambling, crypto, tobacco, pornography, and real-money gaming are barred, while sectors already represented by BCCI sponsors, like banking, insurance, non-alcoholic beverages, sportswear, and some consumer appliances, cannot bid unless they are existing partners.

BCCI officials have indicated that the new sponsor could be announced within two to three weeks. IPL chairman Arun Dhumal last week said a decision was imminent, while vice-president Rajeev Shukla noted the board would finalise the matter within 15–20 days. Financial Express

  • Mediaset sub-licenses LaLiga rights from DAZN in Italy

Mediaset sub-licenses LaLiga rights from DAZN in Italy

A select number of games from Spanish soccer’s LaLiga will be shown free-to-air (FTA) in Italy throughout the remainder of the ongoing 2025-26 season.

Through a sub-licensing deal with LaLiga’s Italian rights-holder DAZN, the Mediaset commercial broadcaster will cover six games simultaneously with the sports subscription platform.

This means that six of the 380 LaLiga games each season will be available FTA in Italy.

Mediaset has suggested that the six games will include El Clasico (the clash between bitter rivals and heavyweights, Real Madrid and Barcelona), as well as the Madrid derby clash between Real and Atletico Madrid.

DAZN holds LaLiga rights in Italy through a five-year deal (an extension) unveiled in April 2024, which also covers rights to the second-tier LaLiga Hypermotion.

In addition to live match coverage, the deal (which also gave DAZN rights in Portugal) includes highlights rights.

DAZN also holds five-year domestic rights to LaLiga, in a deal running through 2026-27.

In terms of recent collaboration between the two broadcasters, earlier this year Mediaset sub-licensed rights from DAZN, in Italy (and Spain), to soccer’s FIFA Club World Cup.

Through the agreement, Mediaset broadcast one match from the US-based tournament per day free-to-air, choosing from the best fixtures scheduled in the evening slot. The CWC featured two Italian teams – Juventus and Inter Milan.

Italian players currently contracted to LaLiga clubs include Giacomo Raspadori and Matteo Ruggeri, who both play at Atletico. Sportcal
